The Greens of March – March Metal Madness

Who says you have to have Kelly green as your March color? Why not use the patina greens and blues when you age your metals?

The Greens of March

Several years ago, I took a 3-day workshop from Susan Lenart Kazmer, a favorite mixed media jewelry artist. I fell in love with how metal comes alive with texture and color. The variations and unexpected design you can achieve amazes me every time. In addition, I love the vibrant blue and green patina color the metal becomes.

When I add texture to my designs with ferric chloride or the patina solution, the results are amazing each and every time. We will do this in my class on March 21, starting at 11:30 am.

Once the piece is hammered with special tools we will use in the class, we can etch with a patina solution. Then, as you can see in the pictures, the true beauty of the metal magic begins. I try for a slightly different color every time, with greens and blues being my favorites. The pictures are from various pieces of jewelry I made over the years, into necklaces and earrings.

If you are new to this process, I hope you also try aging and etching metals.

Sign up for Metal Mania on March 21 at 11:30 am at the studio.

I look forward to seeing you there!
