Shibori Cloth Dyeing

Shibori is a Japanese term for methods of dyeing cloth by binding, stitching, folding, twisting and compressing. In Japan, the earliest known example of cloth dyed with the Shibori technique dates back to the 8th century where indigo was the dye used. This class will be experimenting with this fascinating technique, its history and beauty. Three or four techniques will be taught. Due to the COVID 19 restrictions, the class may be taught outdoors.


Skill Level: Intermediate
Skill Details: Open to all levels. Must be 18 years old
Materials Included: Bring your own pre-washed fabrics, lace, apron, and gloves

Learn how to create patterns and textures in fabric using variety of traditional methods of folding and clamping, stitching and gathering. Create interesting cloth by binding while experimenting with Indigo dyes.
